A fresh spell of rain moved into Shimla on Thursday, pushing temperatures lower, while snowfall blanketed the higher reaches of the Himachal capital.
Rain showers began across Shimla on Thursday, bringing a noticeable dip in daytime temperatures after a relatively mild spell earlier in the week. Meteorological officials recorded temperatures falling to around 8-10°C in the city centre, compared with the previous day's high of 15°C.
The cooler air mass also triggered snowfall in the surrounding high-altitude zones, with the ridge areas above 2,000 metres receiving a thin blanket of snow that turned roads and pathways white. Local residents reported accumulation of up to five centimetres in places such as Jakhu Hill and the nearby pine forests.
The Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority advised commuters to exercise caution on mountain roads and to avoid non-essential travel to affected hilltops. Schools in the city remained open, while some hill-top schools were temporarily closed as a precaution.
