Satellite imagery confirms isolated rain events in Punjab and Uttarakhand even after the official monsoon season has ended.

The India Meteorological Department declared the southwest monsoon withdrawn from the subcontinent earlier this week. Yet, satellite observations captured scattered rain cells over parts of Punjab and Uttarakhand on Thursday, prompting questions about the lingering moisture.

High‑resolution images from the INSAT series showed localized cloud formations moving eastward from the western Himalayas, a pattern typical of western disturbances that can bring post‑monsoon showers to northern India.

Meteorologists explained that these disturbances, combined with residual humidity from the monsoon, are sufficient to trigger brief downpours even after the season officially ends. The rain is expected to be short‑lived and unlikely to cause major disruptions, but farmers in the affected districts are monitoring soil moisture levels closely.

State weather offices have issued advisories for the regions, urging residents to stay updated on local forecasts as the situation evolves.
