Heavy rain and gusty winds on Dussehra day forced organizers in Madhya Pradesh to curtail public celebrations, as active cyclonic systems continue to bring showers across the region.
Rainfall and strong winds swept through several districts of Madhya Pradesh on the day of Dussehra, prompting local authorities to scale back public events. Processions, fire‑lighting rituals and cultural programs were either postponed or moved to indoor venues to ensure safety.
The state disaster management team issued advisories urging crowds to avoid open areas and to follow instructions from police and municipal officials. Minor flooding was reported in low‑lying parts of Bhopal and Indore, though no major injuries have been recorded.
Meteorological officials said the disturbance is linked to active cyclonic systems over the Bay of Bengal that are sending intermittent showers and gusts into central India. They warned that similar weather patterns could persist over the next few days, affecting other festivals and daily activities.
Despite the disruptions, many devotees chose to observe the festival at home, lighting diyas and performing prayers indoors. The government has pledged to provide additional support for cleaning and restoration once the weather stabilises.
