The first day of Navratri brought a sudden weather shift in Punjab and the Tri‑City area, with rain, strong winds and a sharp drop in temperature, leaving roads water‑logged in Abohar.
The meteorological department warned of an abrupt change in weather on Sunday as the first day of Navratri began. Punjab and the adjoining Tri‑City region experienced scattered showers accompanied by gusty winds, bringing a noticeable chill to the area.
In the north, the Himalayan foothills of Himachal Pradesh saw snowfall on the higher elevations, reinforcing the cold spell across the northern belt. The combined effect of rain and cold has heightened concerns among farmers who fear damage to standing crops.
Local authorities in Abohar reported that heavy downpours caused water to accumulate on major thoroughfares, disrupting traffic and prompting temporary road closures. Residents were advised to exercise caution while commuting and to stay updated with further weather alerts.
The department has issued a short‑term forecast of continued rain and possible thunderstorms in Punjab for the next 24 hours, urging the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
