Indian Railways is constructing a temporary passenger shelter and holding area at Chhapra Junction in Bihar to manage the surge of returning migrants during the Chhath festival.
The annual Chhath puja, celebrated along the banks of the Ganges, draws millions of devotees who travel back to their hometowns in Bihar. Anticipating a sharp increase in passenger traffic at Chhapra Junction, the railway authorities have accelerated on‑site preparations.
A temporary shelter and a dedicated holding area are being erected within the station premises. The makeshift structures will provide seating, drinking water, basic medical assistance and security personnel to ensure orderly movement of travelers.
Railway officials have indicated that the facilities will remain operational throughout the festival period, with regular monitoring to address any crowd‑related issues. The aim is to offer a safe and comfortable environment for the influx of pilgrims returning home for the celebrations.
The construction is expected to be completed within the next two days, aligning with the peak days of the Chhath festivities, after which the temporary amenities will be dismantled.
