Congress leader Rahul Gandhi labeled the Kharge ‘purification’ row a criminal act and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to direct a police FIR against those involved.

Congress spokesperson Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday described the recent controversy surrounding senior minister G. V. Kharge’s alleged "purification" remarks as a criminal offence. He asserted that the incident warrants a formal police investigation and called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure a First Information Report (FIR) is filed against the perpetrators.

Gandhi’s statement came after the issue gained traction on social media, where critics accused Kharge of using language that could incite communal tension. The Congress leader emphasized that any act that threatens communal harmony must be dealt with under the law, without political bias.

He further urged the central government to act swiftly, stating that failure to register an FIR would undermine the rule of law and embolden similar provocations in the future. No official response from the Prime Minister’s office has been recorded as of now.

The demand adds to the growing political pressure on the ruling party to address allegations of hate speech and maintain secular principles in public discourse.
