Qazigund and Kokernag in Jammu & Kashmir have logged the highest October temperatures ever recorded, signalling an unusual heat spell in the region.
The towns of Qazigund and Kokernag in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir have experienced the highest October temperatures on record, according to a report by Kashmir Life. Meteorological data shows that the temperatures this month surpassed previous October highs, marking an atypical heat event for the early autumn season.
Historically, October in Kashmir is characterised by mild, pleasant weather with daytime highs usually ranging between 15°C and 20°C. This year, however, the readings in Qazigund and Kokernag exceeded those norms, prompting concerns among residents and local authorities about the potential impact on agriculture and water resources.
The unusual warmth follows a broader pattern of elevated temperatures across northern India, which experts attribute to changing climate dynamics. While no immediate health emergencies have been reported, officials have advised the public to stay hydrated and monitor vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children.
Kashmir Life noted that the record-breaking temperatures underscore the need for enhanced weather monitoring and preparedness in the region, especially as climate variability continues to affect traditional seasonal patterns.
Further updates will be provided as the meteorological department releases detailed data and forecasts for the coming weeks.
