Punjab has reported more than 2,000 farm fires this season, a sharp rise linked to stubble burning practices that have drawn criticism from political parties including the AAP.
Punjab authorities confirmed that over 2,000 farm fires have been reported across the state this season, marking a significant increase from previous years.
The fires are largely attributed to stubble burning, a common practice among farmers to clear crop residue before the next sowing.
Political parties, notably the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), have criticized the state government for not enforcing stricter regulations on stubble burning.
Environmental groups warn that the practice contributes to air pollution and poses a risk to public health.
The state has urged farmers to adopt alternative residue management techniques and has pledged to strengthen monitoring of agricultural burning.
