The Punjab police announced a new drive to tighten surveillance on drug dens in jagras and to conduct daily patrols in isolated spots and cremation ghats to curb narcotics activity.

Punjab police have launched a focused operation to monitor and dismantle drug dens operating in jagras, the open fields surrounding urban areas. The force will deploy additional personnel to keep a close watch on these illicit hubs, aiming to disrupt the supply chain of narcotics.

In addition to the jagra crackdown, the police will initiate daily patrols in remote locations and at cremation ghats, which have been identified as vulnerable points for drug transactions. Regular foot and vehicle patrols are planned to ensure a visible presence and deter criminal activity.

Officials said the intensified surveillance is part of a broader strategy to curb the growing drug problem in the state. By targeting both the open-field dens and the secluded spots where dealers operate, the police hope to reduce the availability of narcotics and protect vulnerable communities.

The new measures will be coordinated with local law‑enforcement units and will involve continuous monitoring to adapt to evolving patterns of drug trade. Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate and report any suspicious activity in these areas.
