Punjab government has announced a free electricity scheme aimed at supporting low‑income households as part of its welfare initiatives.
The Punjab state government today announced a free electricity scheme designed to provide uninterrupted power supply to eligible households. The initiative is part of the administration's broader effort to ease the cost burden on residents.
Under the scheme, families classified as low‑income will receive electricity at no charge for a specified period, with the government covering the full cost of supply. The rollout will begin in the coming weeks, with details to be released by the Department of Energy.
The move follows a series of welfare measures aimed at improving living standards across Punjab, including subsidies for food and healthcare. Officials say the free electricity program will help reduce household expenses and support economic recovery.
