The Punjab High Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe the state's Chief Medical Officer for alleged failure to act on Enforcement Directorate notices and involvement in a transfer posting scam.
The Punjab High Court has issued an order for the Central Bureau of Investigation to launch a probe into the state's Chief Medical Officer. The court's directive stems from allegations that the officer ignored notices issued by the Enforcement Directorate and was linked to a transfer posting scam involving government officials.
According to the filing, the Enforcement Directorate had sent multiple letters seeking cooperation from the CMO in ongoing financial investigations. The court observed that the officer's apparent inaction could impede the agency's ability to trace illicit funds. In addition, a separate complaint alleges that the CMO facilitated irregular transfers and postings within the health department in exchange for favors.
The CBI is expected to examine the correspondence between the ED and the CMO, as well as any evidence of quid‑pro‑quo arrangements in the posting process. The investigation will run under the supervision of the court, and any findings could lead to further legal action against the official and others implicated.
