The Punjab Food Safety Authority (PFSA) has launched a targeted inspection in Amritsar after receiving reports of cheese products that may be artificially manufactured. Inspectors visited several retail outlets and wholesale markets, collecting samples of cheese that appeared to deviate from standard composition.
Officials said the suspected synthetic cheese could contain unapproved additives and chemicals that pose health risks to consumers. The department emphasized that such products violate the Food Safety and Standards Act, which mandates clear labeling and permissible ingredients.
Collected samples are being sent to the state food laboratory for detailed chemical analysis. Depending on the results, PFSA may issue recalls, impose fines, or initiate legal action against manufacturers and sellers found to be violating regulations.
