Senior Punjab Congress figure Warring is poised to step down, prompting the party to search for a new chief before the 2027 state polls.
Punjab Congress senior leader Warring is reported to be on the verge of resigning from his party position. The announcement comes as the state unit prepares for the upcoming 2027 assembly elections, a critical juncture for the party's electoral strategy.
The resignation creates an immediate leadership vacuum, compelling the Punjab Congress high command to identify a successor who can steer the party through the pre‑poll period. Party officials are expected to convene an internal meeting to discuss potential candidates and the procedural steps for appointing a new chief.
Analysts note that the timing of the exit could influence the party's campaign dynamics, as a smooth transition will be essential to maintain organisational cohesion and voter confidence ahead of the polls.
The development underscores the broader challenges facing regional units of national parties as they balance internal restructuring with the demands of upcoming elections.
