Punjab’s chief minister’s officer, Rajbir Singh Ghuman, has filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court alleging that the CBI’s search of his Sangrur home was illegal and lacked agency approval.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s Officer on Special Duty, Rajbir Singh Ghuman, approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking relief from a recent Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) operation at his residence in Sangrur. The petition contends that the CBI’s entry and search were carried out without any prior sanction from the agency, rendering the raid unlawful.

According to the filing, the CBI team entered the property in the early hours of the day, seizing documents and electronic devices. Ghuman’s counsel argues that the investigative agency failed to obtain the requisite approval from its own hierarchy, a procedural breach that violates established legal norms.

The High Court has listed the matter for hearing, and a decision will determine whether the evidence gathered can be admitted in any future proceedings. Legal experts note that the case could set a precedent on the limits of investigative powers in Punjab.

The challenge arrives at a time when the state government is under heightened scrutiny over several high‑profile investigations, adding a political dimension to the legal dispute.
