Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann unveiled a Rs 1,790 crore sports allocation and designated Sangrur as a dedicated skating hub.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced a dedicated sports fund of Rs 1,790 crore aimed at strengthening the state's sporting infrastructure. The substantial allocation is intended to upgrade existing facilities, build new venues and support athlete development across Punjab.
As part of the plan, the town of Sangrur will be transformed into a specialised skating hub. Officials said the project will include a world‑class skating rink, training centres and related amenities to nurture talent at the grassroots level.
State authorities expect the investment to boost participation in a range of sports, create coaching programmes and enable Punjab to host national and international competitions in the future.
The initiative reflects the government's broader strategy to position Punjab as a sports‑friendly region and to provide better opportunities for young athletes.
