The killing of anti‑drug task‑force activist Parvinder Singh Jhota has sparked a statewide bandh in Punjab. In response, the female SHO of Mansa district was suspended for negligence, and government buses were halted in Mohali.

Parvinder Singh Jhota, an activist associated with the anti‑drug task force, was shot dead, prompting outrage among anti‑narcotics groups in Punjab. The incident has intensified concerns over drug‑related violence in the state.

State authorities responded by announcing a full‑day bandh across Punjab to protest the killing and demand swift justice. Public gatherings, markets and transport services were ordered to shut down as part of the protest.

In the wake of the incident, the senior police officer in Mansa district, a female Sub‑Inspector (SHO), was suspended for alleged negligence in handling the case. The move aims to demonstrate accountability within the police force.

Additionally, the transport department halted all government‑run buses in Mohali, citing security concerns and the need to prevent further unrest. Officials said the suspension and bus stoppage are temporary measures pending a detailed investigation.

The Punjab government has promised a thorough probe and has urged citizens to cooperate with law‑enforcement agencies to curb drug‑related crimes.
