The Pune Municipal Corporation has announced a weekly water supply cut starting 15 October to conserve water as the El Niño phenomenon threatens a dry season.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has ordered a weekly water supply cut beginning on 15 October to address anticipated water shortages linked to the El Niño weather pattern.
The decision follows forecasts that the region may experience reduced rainfall and higher temperatures, conditions that could strain the city’s water resources.
Under the new schedule, water will be supplied for a week each month, after which it will be temporarily halted for the remainder of the month. Residents are urged to store water in advance and use it sparingly.
PMC officials said the measure is a precautionary step to ensure a stable supply during the upcoming dry spell and to encourage conservation among households.
