Pune RTO to Introduce MH-61 Registration Series as MH-12 Numbers Run Out

The Maharashtra Regional Transport Office in Pune announced that the existing MH-12 vehicle registration series has been fully allocated and a new MH-61 series will be rolled out to accommodate future registrations.
The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Pune has confirmed that the long‑standing MH‑12 vehicle registration series, used for number plates across the city, has been completely exhausted after all possible combinations were assigned.
To remedy the shortage, officials said a fresh series coded MH‑61 will be introduced. The new series will retain the standard "MH" state code and a two‑digit RTO identifier, creating a new pool of numbers for upcoming vehicle owners.
The rollout is expected to begin in the coming weeks, and the RTO has assured motorists that the transition will be smooth, with existing registrations remaining unchanged.
