Punjab police have stepped up enforcement to stop unauthorised drone operations close to Amritsar's airport, citing safety concerns.
Amritsar, Punjab – Law enforcement officials in Amritsar have intensified monitoring of the airspace surrounding the city’s civilian airport after receiving reports of unauthorised drone activity. Officers stationed near the perimeter are now conducting regular patrols and issuing warnings to individuals operating unmanned aerial vehicles without clearance.
The police statement emphasized that flying drones in close proximity to the runway poses a serious risk to aircraft operations and passenger safety. Under the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) regulations, any drone activity within a prescribed radius of an airport requires prior permission, and violations can attract penalties.
Authorities have also informed the public that any drone found to be operating illegally will be seized and the operator may face legal action. The move aims to deter casual hobbyists from inadvertently breaching aviation safety norms and to ensure uninterrupted flight schedules at the Amritsar airport.
