The Pattali Makkal Katchi has cautioned the Tamil Nadu government that the upcoming Secretariat at Pallavan Illam could exacerbate traffic congestion in Chennai.

The Tamil Nadu government is moving ahead with the construction of a new Secretariat complex at Pallavan Illam, a site located in the heart of Chennai. The project is part of a broader effort to consolidate administrative offices and modernise the state’s bureaucratic infrastructure.

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) officials have publicly warned that the new building could severely choke the city’s already strained traffic network. Party leaders argue that the influx of additional vehicles, coupled with construction activity, will increase congestion on key arterial roads surrounding the Pallavan Illam area.

The party’s statement did not cite specific traffic studies, but it urged the state administration to reassess the site’s suitability and consider mitigation measures. As of now, the Tamil Nadu government has not issued a formal response to the PMK’s concerns, leaving the issue open for further public and expert scrutiny.
