Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Manipur Chief Minister Khemchand Singh and reaffirmed the central government's commitment to the state's peace initiatives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with Manipur Chief Minister Khemchand Singh in Imphal, the state capital, to discuss the ongoing peace process in the region. The two leaders exchanged views on the steps needed to sustain calm and promote development after years of unrest.

During the talks, Modi assured that the Union government will continue to provide political, financial and administrative support to Manipur's peace initiatives. He emphasized that lasting stability requires coordinated efforts between the centre and the state, and pledged to expedite pending projects that can create jobs and improve infrastructure.

The meeting comes at a time when Manipur is still grappling with sporadic violence and demands for greater autonomy. Both officials highlighted the importance of dialogue with all stakeholders, including civil society and community leaders, to address underlying grievances.

Modi also indicated that the central government will monitor the implementation of peace accords closely and will intervene wherever necessary to ensure that the momentum of reconciliation is not lost.
