The Bihar tourism department is finalising infrastructure for the world‑renowned Pitru Paksha fair in Gaya, slated to begin on September 25, featuring a temporary tent city with 2,500 beds.
Gaya in Bihar will host the annual Pitru Paksha Mela from September 25, 2026, marking the start of one of the country’s most visited ancestral‑worship fairs. The event, which draws devotees from across India, is scheduled to run for several weeks, allowing pilgrims to perform rites for their forebears.
The state tourism department has announced the construction of a temporary tent city that will accommodate up to 2,500 guests. The sprawling complex will include basic sanitation, drinking‑water stations, and designated medical aid points to ensure a safe stay for visitors.
Officials have also outlined plans for enhanced road connectivity, additional parking bays, and shuttle services linking the mela grounds with Gaya railway station and nearby airports. Security personnel and crowd‑management teams will be deployed throughout the venue.
The department expects a substantial influx of pilgrims, given the mela’s reputation and the new facilities. Preparations are being monitored closely to meet the anticipated demand while maintaining hygiene and order.
