The Indian pilots’ association has demanded an urgent safety audit of commercial helicopter operators in Uttarakhand following recent incidents.
The Indian Pilots’ Association (IPA) has formally requested the Ministry of Civil Aviation to conduct an immediate safety review of all commercial helicopter operators in Uttarakhand. The call follows a series of accidents involving helicopters in the state’s hilly terrain. IPA officials said that the review should examine maintenance records, pilot training, and operational protocols.
The association’s statement highlighted that several operators have been criticized for lapses in safety standards. It urged the government to enforce stricter regulations and to ensure that all helicopters meet the required safety certifications before returning to service.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has not yet responded to the request. Industry observers note that the review could lead to temporary grounding of certain operators until compliance is verified.
