The Patna High Court set aside the order that slashed retired officer Umesh Kumar Verma’s pension by 75%, directing the government to pay the arrears with 6% interest within eight weeks.
The Patna High Court has overturned a previous directive that reduced the pension of retired civil servant Umesh Kumar Verma by three‑quarters. The bench ruled that the 75% deduction was unlawful and ordered the pension to be restored to its full amount.
In addition to reinstating the full pension, the court mandated that the government clear all pending dues along with a six percent interest rate. The payment must be made within eight weeks, and the court instructed that officials responsible for the irregularities be held accountable.
The decision comes after the pensioner challenged the drastic cut, arguing it violated his service rights. By cancelling the reduction, the court not only secures Verma’s financial stability but also sends a clear message to administrative bodies about adhering to lawful pension norms.
