Panjab University LLB Student Commits Suicide in Campus Hostel

A postgraduate law student at Panjab University was found dead in a campus hostel, the university confirmed the death as suicide, occurring days after a similar incident at IIT Delhi.
Panjab University officials confirmed that a student enrolled in the LLB programme was discovered dead inside a university hostel on Thursday. Preliminary investigations by the campus police have ruled the death as a suicide.
The university released a brief statement expressing grief and stating that it is cooperating with local authorities to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident. Counseling services have been made available to students and staff in the wake of the tragedy.
The suicide comes only a few days after the death of an Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT‑D) student, which also drew nationwide attention. Both incidents have prompted calls for stronger mental‑health support mechanisms in higher‑education institutions across the country.
Local police have opened a case and are conducting standard procedural inquiries, while the university has urged the community to remain calm and respect the privacy of the deceased family.
