Panchayat employment officer nabbed for Rs 30,000 bribe in Shekhpura, Bihar

The Monitoring Investigation Bureau arrested Pappu Kumar, a Panchayat Rozgar Sevak, in Ariari block of Shekhpura district for accepting a Rs 30,000 bribe linked to a Rs 6 lakh MGNREGA project.
Shekhpura district authorities said the Monitoring Investigation Bureau detained Pappu Kumar, also known as Prafull Kumar, who served as a Panchayat Rozgar Sevak in the Ariari block. The arrest took place after the bureau received a tip about a possible bribe related to a government employment scheme.
Investigators allege that Kumar demanded Rs 60,000 from contractors to release work worth Rs 6 lakh under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). He is also accused of taking away official MGNREGA files that were meant for the project.
The case underscores ongoing concerns about corruption in the implementation of MGNREGA, a flagship rural employment program. Police have seized the alleged cash and are continuing to examine the documents to determine the extent of the misconduct.
Further inquiries are expected to identify any additional officials or contractors involved, and the bureau has pledged to pursue the matter in accordance with anti-corruption laws.
