An audit of AIIMS Bhopal’s procurement records revealed that a medical tube priced at Rs 14.27 was purchased for Rs 943.49, and similar overpricing of 500‑6500% was found in more than 125 medicines and 200 surgical items.
An internal audit of the procurement data at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhopal has highlighted stark price discrepancies in the purchase of medical supplies. The review shows that a simple tube, normally costing Rs 14.27, was recorded at a purchase price of Rs 943.49.
The audit further identified that more than 125 pharmaceutical products and over 200 surgical items were bought at rates ranging from five‑hundred to six‑thousand five hundred percent above standard market prices. Such inflated figures suggest systemic irregularities in the institute’s supply chain management.
Health officials and the institute’s administration have not issued a detailed response, and the silence has drawn criticism from watchdog groups and the public. Calls are now mounting for a thorough investigation by the state health department and anti‑corruption agencies to determine responsibility and recover the excess funds.
