The Election Commission of India removed more than 6,000 voter entries from Meghalaya’s electoral roll after the latest Supplementary Electoral Roll (SIR) exercise.

The Election Commission of India has announced that over 6,000 voter records have been deleted from the electoral roll of Meghalaya after the recent Supplementary Electoral Roll (SIR) exercise. The deletion was carried out as part of routine verification to eliminate duplicate, inactive or ineligible entries.

According to the commission’s statement, the removed entries include names of deceased individuals, voters who have shifted residence to other states, and duplicate registrations identified during the SIR update. The move aims to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the voter list ahead of upcoming elections.

Officials said the deletion will not affect the eligibility of any active voter, and the revised roll will be made available for public scrutiny within the stipulated time frame. The commission has urged citizens to verify their details on the updated roll and report any discrepancies.

The update comes as Meghalaya prepares for future electoral contests, and the commission continues to monitor the roll for further corrections as required.
