A government‑run drive in Meghalaya has administered free human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines to more than 1,800 girls across twelve districts.
Meghalaya's health department, in partnership with the central government, completed a free HPV vaccination drive that reached over 1,800 adolescent girls in twelve districts of the state. The vaccines were administered at government health centres and outreach camps, ensuring that the beneficiaries did not bear any cost.
The human papillomavirus vaccine is a key preventive measure against cervical cancer, a disease that claims thousands of lives among Indian women each year. By targeting school‑age and out‑of‑school girls, the programme aims to build herd immunity and reduce future cancer burden.
