More than 140 opposition MPs began a march from Parliament to the streets of New Delhi on Tuesday, protesting alleged vote‑theft and recent revelations concerning the Chief Election Commissioner, after filing an FIR.
New Delhi, Tuesday – Over 140 members of the opposition bloc, often referred to as the India Block, left the Parliament building and proceeded towards the streets, signalling a large‑scale protest against what they describe as "vote theft" and recent disclosures linked to the Chief Election Commissioner.
The MPs filed a formal First Information Report (FIR) against the Election Commission before embarking on the march. Among the detained leaders were senior Congress figures Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, as well as Akhilesh Yadav, highlighting the high‑profile nature of the demonstration.
Security forces were deployed along the route, and the marchers carried placards demanding a transparent investigation and accountability from the Election Commission. The opposition aims to pressure the commission to address their concerns before the upcoming elections.
