More than a lakh people assembled in Imphal, Manipur, calling for an end to the alleged proxy war and the cancellation of the SoO pact.

A massive crowd exceeding 100,000 gathered in Imphal, the capital of Manipur, to voice a unified demand for the termination of what they described as a "proxy war" affecting the region. The demonstrators also called for the abrogation of the SoO pact, which they allege fuels external interference.

Organisers of the rally said the gathering reflects widespread frustration among locals who feel the ongoing conflict is being driven by outside forces. They urged the central government to intervene decisively and dissolve the SoO agreement, which they claim undermines Manipur's sovereignty.

Police officials reported that the protest remained peaceful, with participants chanting slogans and holding placards. Security arrangements were heightened to manage the large turnout, but no incidents of violence were recorded.

The rally adds pressure on policymakers in New Delhi to reassess the strategic framework governing the region. Analysts note that such large‑scale public mobilisations can influence future diplomatic and security decisions concerning Manipur.

The Sangai Express, a regional newspaper, highlighted the event as a significant expression of public sentiment, underscoring the urgency of addressing the underlying grievances linked to the proxy conflict and the SoO pact.
