Defence player Jarmanpreet Singh paused his international commitments to play a domestic match in Punjab, marking his first appearance on home soil during the current tour.
Jarmanpreet Singh, a member of India’s Olympic men’s hockey squad, stepped onto a Punjab field this week despite the national team’s ongoing overseas tour. The Olympian was granted leave from the tour to honor a domestic fixture in his home state, allowing local supporters a rare chance to see him play live.
The appearance comes as part of a scheduled state‑level competition, highlighting the link between elite international duties and grassroots hockey development. Officials said his involvement will inspire young players and boost the sport’s profile across Punjab.
While details of the opponent and the match outcome have not been disclosed, the event underscores the importance of regional engagement even when senior players are engaged in global commitments.
