Odisha’s 160‑km Coastal Highway to Slash Rameshwar‑Paradeep Travel Time by 2.5 Hours

The Odisha government has inaugurated a new 160‑kilometre coastal highway that links the towns of Rameshwar and Paradeep. Designed to run along the Bay of Bengal, the road aims to provide a faster, more direct route for commuters and freight traffic.

According to officials, the new alignment will cut travel time between the two points by roughly two and a half hours compared with the existing inland road network. The reduction is expected to benefit local businesses, especially those involved in port‑related activities at Paradeep.

The project forms part of the state’s broader effort to improve coastal connectivity and boost economic growth in the region. While the highway is now open for public use, authorities plan to monitor traffic patterns and assess further infrastructure needs.
