The Odisha state government has outlined a ₹1.1 trillion investment plan to expand its renewable energy capacity, enhance storage facilities and upgrade the power grid.

Odisha's state government has announced a ₹1.1 trillion investment plan aimed at expanding the state's renewable energy capacity, enhancing storage solutions, and modernising the power grid. The proposal, released by the Ministry of Power, seeks to meet growing electricity demand while aligning with national clean‑energy targets.

The plan targets an increase of 4,000 MW in renewable generation over the next decade, with a mix of solar, wind and hydro projects. Officials say the new capacity will reduce the state's reliance on coal and help achieve the 2025 renewable energy target of 30% of total generation.

To support the intermittent nature of solar and wind, the proposal includes ₹250 billion earmarked for large‑scale battery storage and pumped‑storage facilities. Upgrading transmission lines and substations will also be a priority, ensuring efficient delivery of power from remote generation sites to urban centres.

The government intends to launch a tender process in the coming months, with the first projects expected to start construction by 2025. The investment will be financed through a combination of state funds, central grants and private sector participation.
