The state’s culture minister unveiled a Rs 10 crore fund to support the upcoming Kataka Bali Yatra, which will be conducted without single‑use plastic in 2026.

Odisha’s culture minister announced a financial package of Rs 10 crore aimed at bolstering the Kataka Bali Yatra scheduled for 2026. The grant is intended to enhance infrastructure, cultural programmes and promotional activities associated with the historic maritime festival.

In addition to the funding, the minister declared that the 2026 edition of the Kataka Bali Yatra will be conducted without any single‑use plastic, aligning the event with the state’s broader environmental objectives. Organisers are expected to adopt reusable or biodegradable alternatives for food, packaging and souvenir distribution.

The Kataka Bali Yatra, traditionally held in Cuttack, showcases Odisha’s seafaring legacy and attracts tourists, artisans and scholars from across the country. The plastic‑free pledge is seen as a step toward sustainable tourism and a cleaner urban environment.

State officials indicated that the grant and eco‑friendly measures will be monitored by the Department of Culture and the Pollution Control Board to ensure compliance and effective utilization of funds.
