Odisha Announces Bidesh Sikhya Bruti Scholarship for SC/ST Postgraduate & PhD Studies Abroad

The Odisha government has launched the Bidesh Sikhya Bruti scheme to fund SC and ST students pursuing postgraduate and doctoral programmes overseas.
The state of Odisha unveiled a new scholarship programme called Bidesh Sikhya Bruti, aimed at financially supporting students from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes who wish to pursue higher education abroad. The scheme targets postgraduate and PhD courses, offering full or partial funding for tuition, living costs and travel expenses.
Eligibility is limited to SC and ST candidates who have secured admission to recognized foreign universities for advanced degrees. Applications will be processed through the state’s higher‑education department, with selection based on academic merit and the relevance of the proposed study to the state's development goals.
Odisha officials said the initiative is part of a broader effort to improve social equity and increase the representation of marginalized communities in global research and professional fields. By enabling talented students to gain international exposure, the government hopes to foster knowledge transfer and long‑term economic benefits for the state.
