State‑run power giant NTPC announced it is inviting private and foreign partners to develop co‑generation facilities that will produce both steam and electricity for industrial users.

New Delhi, Oct 11 (Asianet Newsable) – State‑run power producer NTPC said it is opening a fresh round of invitations for private and foreign firms to set up co‑generation plants that can supply both steam and electricity to large industrial consumers. The company said the initiative is aimed at meeting growing demand for reliable, high‑efficiency energy solutions in sectors such as chemicals, steel and textiles.

NTPC will provide project support including land allocation, grid connectivity and regulatory clearances, while partners will bring investment and technology expertise. The co‑generation model is expected to improve overall fuel utilisation and reduce emissions compared with separate steam and power generation.

The power utility expects the first projects to be operational within the next two to three years, subject to finalising agreements and securing financing. Industry observers view the move as part of the government’s broader push to attract private capital into the energy sector and to diversify the country’s power mix.
