The National Medical Commission has introduced regulations aimed at stopping deceptive online promotion by medical practitioners and private hospitals in Telangana.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has rolled out a set of guidelines specifically targeting misleading digital marketing practices by doctors and private hospitals operating in Telangana. The rules prohibit false claims about treatment outcomes, exaggerated success rates, and unverified use of advanced technologies in online advertisements.
Under the new framework, healthcare providers must obtain prior approval for any promotional content that references clinical results, and they are required to display clear disclosures about the nature of the services offered. Non‑compliance could attract penalties, including fines and suspension of digital advertising privileges.
The move comes amid growing concerns from consumer groups and the medical community that patients are being misled by exaggerated claims on social media and hospital websites. By tightening oversight, the NMC aims to protect patient interests and ensure that medical information shared online is accurate and evidence‑based.
The regulations will be enforced from the coming month, with the NMC setting up a monitoring cell in Hyderabad to review complaints and conduct periodic audits of digital content published by medical entities in the state.
