Actor Nicolas Cage criticized the Marvel Cinematic Universe, describing it as a glorified WWE show and lamenting that seasoned actors over 50 are donning extravagant costumes.
Actor Nicolas Cage took to a recent interview to voice his disapproval of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, labeling it a "glorified WWE" spectacle. He argued that the franchise relies heavily on spectacle rather than substantive storytelling.
Cage further criticized the trend of older, “gifted” actors—those in their fifties and beyond—wearing what he described as “ridiculous outfits.” He implied that such costumes detract from the authenticity and depth of the characters.
The comments came amid ongoing debates about the creative direction of superhero films and the balance between action and narrative. While some fans welcomed the candid critique, others defended the franchise’s global appeal and its ability to bring diverse talent to the screen.
Cage’s remarks add to a growing chorus of Hollywood voices questioning the formulaic nature of blockbuster franchises, though no official response has been issued by Marvel Studios yet.
