The National Investigation Agency has detained a person alleged to be part of a conspiracy orchestrated by Imam Mahmuder Kafila, an offshoot of the banned JMB group.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) disclosed that it has taken into custody a suspect accused of participating in a conspiracy linked to an offshoot of the banned Jama'at-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). The arrest follows a months‑long probe that traced the alleged plot to Imam Mahmuder Kafila, a faction that split from the main JMB organization.

Investigators said the suspect was identified through intelligence inputs and surveillance that indicated his involvement in planning activities aimed at furthering the offshoot's extremist agenda. The NIA's operation, carried out in accordance with the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, resulted in the seizure of electronic devices and documents that are expected to shed light on the network's structure.

While the agency has not released the suspect's name, it confirmed that the individual will face charges related to terrorism financing, conspiracy to commit unlawful activities, and possession of prohibited material. Authorities emphasized that the arrest is part of a broader effort to dismantle extremist cells operating on Indian soil.

The NIA has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, reiterating its commitment to safeguarding national security against transnational terrorist threats.
