The National Highways Authority of India is strengthening surveillance on the Delhi‑Mumbai Expressway by installing cameras that will automatically record overspeeding and driver negligence.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced a new safety initiative aimed at reducing accidents on the Delhi‑Mumbai Expressway. Under the plan, a network of high‑resolution cameras will be installed at critical points along the corridor to automatically detect vehicles exceeding speed limits and flag instances of driver negligence.
The surveillance system will be linked to a central monitoring hub, allowing real‑time alerts to traffic police and enabling swift enforcement actions. Officials said the technology will capture video evidence the moment a violation occurs, ensuring that offenders can be identified and penalised without delay.
NHAI officials highlighted that the expressway, which traverses several states including Madhya Pradesh, has seen a rise in high‑speed collisions since its inauguration. By bolstering monitoring, the agency aims to lower the fatality rate and improve overall road safety for commuters traveling between the capital and the commercial hub of Mumbai.
The rollout is expected to begin within the next few weeks, with priority given to sections that have recorded the highest number of accidents. Authorities will also conduct public awareness campaigns to inform drivers about the new enforcement measures.
