The National Green Tribunal has warned departments over the Shahpura Talab boundary dispute and mandated a final FTL and 50‑metre buffer zone within ten days, after which encroachment removal will begin.
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) expressed strong displeasure over the ongoing tussle between state departments regarding the demarcation of Shahpura Talab's catchment area. In its recent order, the tribunal gave the concerned agencies a strict deadline of ten days to finalize the Full Tank Level (FTL) and establish a 50‑metre buffer zone around the reservoir.
The directive comes as part of the NGT's broader effort to protect the water body from illegal encroachments that threaten its ecological balance. Once the boundary and buffer are officially marked, the tribunal has instructed that removal of any structures or settlements infringing upon the catchment area should commence without delay.
State officials have been asked to submit a detailed plan confirming the exact coordinates of the FTL and the buffer perimeter within the stipulated period. Failure to comply could attract further legal action, the tribunal warned. The move is expected to safeguard the talab's water storage capacity and prevent future environmental degradation in the Bhopal region.
