Around 490,000 aspirants contested the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission preliminary exam today, vying for 846 vacancies across various state government departments.
On Tuesday, the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) conducted its preliminary examination, attracting nearly 490,000 candidates. The exam offered 846 vacancies across a range of state government posts, including administrative, technical, and support roles.
The preliminary test is the first stage of the TNPSC recruitment process, designed to filter candidates before the subsequent mains and interview rounds. Eligibility requirements include a minimum educational qualification and age limits, as stipulated in the official notification.
The high number of applicants underscores the competitiveness of state government jobs in Tamil Nadu, a trend that has persisted over the past few years. Candidates who clear the preliminary round will advance to the mains exam, which tests subject‑specific knowledge.
Results for the preliminary stage will be announced on the TNPSC website, after which successful candidates will receive invitations for the next phase of the selection process.
