A rupture in the Narmada water pipeline on Tuesday forced pumps to shut, causing a city‑wide water shortage and leaving twenty storage tanks only partially filled.
On Tuesday, a section of the Narmada water pipeline serving Indore burst, releasing millions of litres of water into the surroundings. The sudden leak prompted immediate shutdown of the Narmada pumping stations to contain the loss.
The interruption created a water scarcity across a large part of the city, as the municipal supply was halted while repairs were underway.
As a direct consequence, twenty water storage tanks in the network could not be filled to capacity, leaving them partially empty and limiting the amount of water available to residents.
Local authorities have deployed repair crews to fix the rupture and are monitoring the situation closely, aiming to restore normal supply as soon as the pipeline is secured.
