After more than 35,000 vehicles headed to Nainital, Bhowali, Bhimtal and Kanchi Dham in a single day, the Nainital police have introduced a revised traffic arrangement for Saturday and Sunday evenings.

The Nainital police announced a comprehensive traffic plan aimed at easing congestion during the weekend evenings when thousands of motorists travel to popular hill destinations such as Nainital, Bhowali, Bhimtal and Kanchi Dham. The decision follows a record movement of over 35,000 vehicles in a single day, prompting authorities to reassess existing road‑use protocols.

Under the new scheme, designated entry and exit points will be staggered, with specific time slots allocated for private cars, buses and two‑wheelers. Traffic police will deploy additional personnel at key junctions and use portable signal units to manage flow on the main approaches to the hill stations.

Motorists are advised to check the official Nainital police website or local bulletins before departing, as the plan includes real‑time updates on lane closures and alternative routes. The aim is to reduce waiting times, improve safety and prevent bottlenecks that have previously plagued weekend travelers.

The police have also urged commuters to avoid last‑minute trips and consider early departures, especially on Saturdays and Sundays, to benefit from smoother movement and avoid penalties for violating the new schedule.
