The state government has approved the addition of nine new railway lines at Nagercoil station to accommodate increasing train traffic.
The Tamil Nadu government has sanctioned the construction of nine additional railway lines at Nagercoil station, the state’s southernmost rail hub. The expansion aims to ease congestion and increase the station’s handling capacity as passenger and freight traffic rises.
Officials say the new lines will allow more trains to arrive and depart simultaneously, reducing delays on the busy Kollam–Nagercoil corridor. Construction is expected to begin in the coming months, with a target completion by late 2025.
The project is part of a broader effort to modernise rail infrastructure in the region, which has seen a steady uptick in travel demand. Once finished, the upgraded station will better serve commuters, tourists and commercial transport users alike.
