During the orientation programme at the University of Science and Technology, Nagaland minister Temjen Imna Along appealed to students to reject all forms of racial and ethnic discrimination.
Nagaland's Minister of Education, Temjen Imna Along, addressed the newly admitted students of the University of Science and Technology (USTM) on Monday, emphasizing the need to foster an inclusive campus environment. Speaking at the university's orientation programme, he highlighted that discrimination based on race, ethnicity or tribe undermines the spirit of unity that the state strives to uphold.
The minister reminded the students that Nagaland is home to a mosaic of tribes and cultures, and that respect for diversity is essential for social harmony and academic excellence. He urged them to treat each other with dignity, to speak out against prejudice, and to report any incidents of bias to campus authorities.
Along also announced that the state government will support USTM in conducting workshops and awareness campaigns on human rights and anti‑discrimination. He concluded by encouraging the freshers to become ambassadors of tolerance, thereby contributing to a progressive and cohesive society.
