For nearly two decades, Muslim performer Mohsin Khan has been cast as Lord Rama in the Netaji Subhash Kala Mandal’s Ramleela in Bikaner, exemplifying communal harmony.
Bikaner’s Netaji Subhash Kala Mandal has featured Muslim artist Mohsin Khan as the lead deity, Lord Rama, in its annual Ramleela for the past 19 years. The tradition began in the early 2000s and has continued uninterrupted, drawing audiences from across the city and surrounding districts.
Beyond acting, Khan also directs the production, overseeing stage design, music and choreography. His dual role underscores a rare instance of inter‑faith collaboration in a cultural form traditionally associated with Hindu narratives.
Local residents and cultural commentators say the performance has become a symbol of communal solidarity, demonstrating that shared artistic expression can bridge religious divides. Organisers plan to continue the tradition, hoping it inspires similar initiatives elsewhere in Rajasthan.
