Starting October 1, the Greater Mumbai Development Authority will increase toll charges for commercial vehicles at five key entry points into the city. The hike aims to curb congestion and improve road maintenance.
The Greater Mumbai Development Authority (GMDA) announced a toll hike for commercial vehicles effective 1 October. The increase will apply at five main entry points: Bandra, Andheri, Ghatkopar, Khar, and Powai.
The new rates will add approximately ₹10-15 per vehicle, depending on the entry point, according to the GMDA website. The hike is part of a broader strategy to manage traffic congestion and generate funds for road upkeep.
Commercial operators have expressed concerns about the additional cost, but the authority said the revenue will be earmarked for infrastructure improvements, including resurfacing of major arterial roads.
The GMDA has urged transport companies to plan routes accordingly and has set up a helpline for queries. The change is expected to take effect on the first day of October.
