The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority has approved a hike in fares, raising taxi fares to ₹33 and the minimum auto fare to ₹27, effective September 1.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) announced that taxi fares will rise to ₹33 per kilometer and the minimum auto fare will increase to ₹27 from September 1. The decision follows a review of operating costs and inflationary pressures faced by drivers.
Previously, taxi fares were capped at ₹30 per kilometer while the minimum auto fare stood at ₹25. The new rates aim to align transport charges with the rising cost of fuel and maintenance.
MMRTA officials stated that the hike would be implemented across all licensed taxis and autos operating within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The authority has also indicated that the revised fares will be reflected in the electronic fare meters used by drivers.
Passengers are advised to be aware of the new rates and to verify meter readings before starting a ride. The change is expected to take effect on September 1, 2024, with a brief transition period for drivers to update their fare meters.
